Born in the underwater city of Sui-no-Sato, Mimo always had a fascination with what was beyond her literal bubble. Her parents, members of the Ruby Princess's royal court, expected her to take up the mantle and live to serve Sui-no-Sato. High society and duties, however, were not on her to-do list.

It was an ordinary night, the sounds of thunder softly rumbling and whales singing in the distance. Schools of fish could barely be seen in the pitch black waters. The residents of Sui-no-Sato were sound asleep, all except for one.Her feet crunching against the sand, Mimo sprinted for the village gates. Stormy waters, creatures lurking in different corners of the seabed, how can one resist such an escapade? Even if it was for a brief moment, the young Mimo knew she had to experience the thrill of adventure. Adrenaline courses through her body as the cold waters envelop her body. Her little legs kick excitedly as she rushes through the water, her goal to get as far away from the village as possible.

A fish in water, Mimo looks back at her village. Why must they isolate themselves, when the whole ocean is their playground? Why file through boring documents and socialize with sycophants when the darkest depths of the sea could be explored? In a moment of peace, she lets the water carry her, floating her in different directions. Tiny fish tickle at her feet as they graze by and the sound of bubbles nearly lulls her to sleep. One, however, must stay vigilant in the ocean, no matter how much they may enjoy it. Before she knew it, an ocean current had swept her off her feet and after a series of sudden twists and turns, her world goes black.

Her world was a blur, her body feeling like it had been through the worst. A coldness rushes through her body as she feels herself being flung onto a hard surface. Slowly but surely, she regains her senses as muffled words fill her ear. "...Doma...Kaien...the Garleans...business..." She lets out a groggy groan. What in the world was going on? Who was talking, and about what? The wind felt foreign on her skin and the crackle of lightning was louder. Where was she? Questions race through her mind and her eyes shoot right open, only to make eye contact with a flopping fish. "Ah!" She yelps as her whole body jolts upward. Unfamiliar eyes were on her now, and amidst the sudden commotion, she could hear one clear shout. "By the Twelve, we caught someone!"

Her feet dangle off the edge of a wooden chair, a cup of warm water in her hands. A blanket had been wrapped around her and she was alone in a dimly lit room. She could hear muffled voices of strange men beyond the door. These were surface dwellers, aboard what they call a ship. A man that smelled like the sea burst through the door, nearly making her drop her drink. "Well, young lady, you're certainly no fish. We didn't expect such a big catch!" He lets out a hearty cackle as he pulls up a chair in front of her. He had neither scales nor horns and his skin was as green as the seaweed that grew nearby. "Who...what are you?" She asks coarsely, and the man leans back into his chair. He raises an eyebrow; does she really not know who the Roegadyn are? "I'm the captain of this ship, and..." He ponders for a brief moment. "Let's save what I am for another discussion." He lets out a loud chuckle as he spots the visible bewilderment on her face. "I won't ask how you got caught in my net, for now. You're an unfortunate woman lost at sea and that's all we need to know." His jovial face takes a serious turn. "But I should hope that you're not here. 'Cause we're not turning back, and not for many years." 'Here' surely must mean Kugane, the bustling port town nearby. If she remembers those stifling lessons correctly, foreigners would want to trade their goods there and mingle within the markets, possibly to make a business partner. So why avoid it? The questions are so loud in her head that the captain can practically hear them, and he lets out a sigh. "Do you know what happened to your Lord Kaien?"

Lord Kaien is dead, his son Hien presumed deceased. The Doman Liberation Front, crushed by the Garleans. Even the residents of the secluded Sui-no-Sato know these names and what this implies. The captain lets out a 'huff' as he crosses his arms. "Kugane's not safe for trade, no matter what they say. I bet those Garleans are waiting to strike, steal the markets all of 'emselves! Moment we heard the news, we packed our bags and set sail. No way are we becoming buddy-buddy with them!" He slams his fist on a nearby table, visibly frustrated, before letting out a sigh and relaxing his shoulders. "Time to head home, see how we can pick up on our business there." Home? Her eyes shoot up to meet his, a curious glisten in her eyes. "Where's this 'home' you speak of?"The captain lets out a lively laugh. "Why, to Eorzea!"

Days turn into weeks at sea, plenty of time for fish out of water to pick up new tricks. Going home will have to wait and learning how to survive above the surface takes first priority. Where she lacks in strength, she certainly makes up for in grilling fish. The smell of smoke and sizzling fresh fish wafting through the air; it's baffling how such talent was hidden beneath the waves. However, no matter how delicious her food may be, it won't protect her from everyone. She couldn't help but observe the little blue creature the captain would sometimes summon from thin air. Often, it would come out whenever the ship was threatened. Its little feet would pitter-patter across the wood planks before transforming into something breathtaking, yet terrifying. Sometimes, it'd turn into a fiery, horned creature with sharp claws. Other times, a tiny golem that shone as brightly as the sun. Quite small, relative to the towering captain, but the destruction they incurred was massive. As the ships slowly docks into the golden city of Ul'dah, she wonders, perhaps she should acquire a blue creature of her own."Well why didn't you tell me sooner?? We're in the wrong bloody city!" Her cheeks flush a bright rolanberry red as the captain slaps his knee in a fit of laughter. Perhaps procrastinating on telling him her goal wasn't the greatest idea. "If you want to learn how to summon a carbuncle, you need to head to Limsa Lominsa." Limsa Lominsa, another large trading hub smack in the middle of the ocean. Unfortunately, that's another boat ride and the captain and crew have priorities in this sandy city. The tiny amount of gil in her pocket couldn't possibly get her a boat.In the blink of an eye, the captain was sending out his crew to look for a certain man on the docks, someone named "Brennan." Perhaps a friendly acquaintance or fellow trader. "I'll put in a good word for you, but I'd expect he'd want something in return." Payment in gil is out of question and he doubts a grilled fish would suffice. What could a woman plucked right from the sea possibly offer? "Your story. Tell him your story. The man himself is a sucker for them." He smiles brightly at her and before she knew it, he was sending off the young lady as she boards a towering ship.

Strong winds tousle her hair as waves crash against the ship, the mist sprinkling against her skin. That same feeling of adrenaline she felt that fateful night courses through her skin, a wide smile on her face. Another adventure out at sea, off to another shining city. Even if she had the chance to return to that peaceful bubble of her's, who's to say that she would? The world above the water is as deep and expansive as the sea, and a world like that needs exploring. Mesmerized by the golden sun in the distance, she braces herself as the waters take her on her next adventure, once again.
